Transforming the Rice Value chain for Climate Resilient and Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta (TRVC)

In Can Tho, January 16th, 2024, the Netherlands Development Organisation SNV held the Public Announcement Workshop for Project “Transforming the Rice Value chain for Climate Resilient and Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta (TRVC)”. The Workshop brought together 150 participants from the Government, Universities/Research Institutes, the Private sector and NGO sector that have a shared vision for innovative rice farming techniques to improve rice quality and inclusive social values while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Funded by the Australian Embassy, the Netherlands Development Organization SNV, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), and Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of three provinces An Giang, Dong Thap and Kien Giang, kicked-off implementation of the “Transforming the Rice Value Chain for Climate Resilient and Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta (TRVC)” from 2023 – 2027.

The project expects to support a shift to low emissions rice production for 200,000 hectares by 2027. This contributes to MARD’s ambitions to reach 1 million hectares nationally. The project provides a cash incentive to those who participate and achieve greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets, with emissions verified by Independent Verifiers. Support is also provided to improve farming practices and the supply chain to be more inclusive of men and women and those with disabilities to ensure benefits are shared amongst the community.
